Villa Bellavista - Lake Como

Accommodates 10 - 16 - 8 Bedrooms - 7 Baths - Pool - Boat with Private Dock - A/C - Wi-Fi

A magnificent lakeside home, Villa Bellavista dates back to the beginning of the twentieth century and still belongs to the noble Swiss family who, coming on holiday here, fell in love with the area and decided to build their Italian holiday home here. The villa was carefully restored a few years ago. The owners tastefully furnished and embellished it retaining many of its original characteristics and balancing them harmoniously with modern comforts: Elegant tapestries and fabrics, floors made from fine wood with geometric inlays, beautiful paintings on the walls, and family period furnishings are balanced with a modern and fully equipped kitchen, wi-fi internet connection, plasma TV with satellite, and all other mod cons.

The villa is positioned directly on the lake and is set in a beautiful garden. Views are stunning. Its location, a few kilometers from Cernobbio, the Villa d’Este, and the elegant city of Como, as well as the easy access by foot to public bus and ferry transport, makes the villa a particularly convenient base. Though there is parking behind the villa for at least four vehicles, you could seriously consider coming here without a car at all, choosing instead to move by foot, by bus, by ferry, and by train. While there are no businesses of any sort immediately adjacent to this exclusive area of villas, restaurants and simple shopping are at walking distance. On the 70sqm terrace opening directly on the lake you can enjoy the view and sunbathe in full privacy next to the property’s brand-new swimming pool. From the villa’s private dock, guests can use a rental boat or water-taxis to visit such charming towns and villages as Menaggio, Bellagio, and Tremezzo.

As with all villas facing the lake, the access road is located to the rear. In the specific case of Villa Bellavista, this is not the main lake road, but a local one. All the rooms except one face the lake, and in any event all windows are triple-glazed. Noise is not a problem except for true fanatics.

What’s to do in this area? How about this for a start?: Excursions by boat, including the boat that comes with the villa. Elegant shopping. Fine dining. Golf (course at 2km). Tennis (public courts a short distance away). The casino at Campione. Hiking. Beautiful gardens. Visit the other lakes. Spend a day in Milan. But we will place a bet that most days, you will simply not want to leave the villa and its immediate surroundings.

The floor space of the villa is about 600 m² (6500 ft²) and is set on land measuring about 2,000 m² (about a half-acre)

Here is a case which illustrates perfectly our firm confention that owner presence on, or in close proximity to, a property changes everything. The owner of Bellavista, who lives across the road from the villa, and who speaks excellent English, will make your stay truly memorable. We feel that the lake district is difficult to get a real handle on, especially for just a week or two’s stay. In this case, the owner smooths the way such that issues like choosing a restaurant, finding just the right delicatessen, or renting a boat are answered, and often arranged, for you. Everything becomes soooooooooooooooo much easier. This is HUGE. To us, it is one of the principal reasons why you should consider this villa and others with similar owners. You should overcome any reluctance you might have to renting a place with an owner looking over your shoulder. The owner will not invade your space; you need not avail yourselves of any of his proffered services. But we guarantee you that if you do, it will only be to your advantage.

We ourselves recently stayed at Villa Bellavista. It is truly a great property, in a glorious and convenient position. And if you’re dividing the cost among several couples, it isn’t unreasonably priced either. It’s great for couples, but it isn’t 100% “perfect”. You just have to accept certain “old-fashioned-nesses”. Like the fact that the baths are adjacent but not en-suite, meaning that you might actually run into one of your traveling companions in the middle of the night in their nightgown (or even less). Like the fact that those gorgeous bedframes might impede you from stretching your legs out fully if you’re more than 6 foot 3 (1m90). Like the fact that those charming old bathtubs might be more than a tiny bit awkward to climb into and out of. We have had 4- and 5-couple groups at Villa Bellavista for whom such issues presented no problem whatsoever, but we feel it only right to bring these matters up to you now, before you decide, and then let you make your decision knowing everything there is to know.

Villa Bellavista is one of the few villas we offer where we can confidently say you can come here without a rented car. (Of course, you’ve got to get here, and you might want to hire a driver to transfer you from the airport.)

Villa Bellavista is offered at one price if you’re 10 or fewer persons, and at a higher price if you’re a larger group.
