La Terrazza sul Mare – Amalfi Coast – Positano

Accommodates 4 - 2 Bedrooms - 2 Baths - A/C - Wi-Fi - Terraces

La Terrazza sul Mare is a delightful small cottage perched atop another Positano villa, with its own independent access from the Via Pasitea below, via a stairway of 85 steps. We remember some years ago when a couple in their early 80s wanted to take this cottage, despite our strong reservations. They went ahead anyway, and when they returned, upon interrogation, they told us that they had always taken the stairs VERY slowly!

Furnishings at La Terrazza are comfortable throughout and display the owner’s excellent taste. The cottage was recently featured in Casa Brava, one of Italy’s most prestigious magazines covering the fields of domestic architecture and interior decoration. Uninterrupted views of the sea and of the village spread out below you are absolutely magnificent.

15 minutes walking down to the centre and 10 more minutes to the main beach, the ”Spiaggia Grande”. The nearest, smaller beach is Fornillo, at 500 m. approx. The two beaches are about 400m apart and are connected by foot. A stop for the local bus is right on the road below the villa.
A short bus ride will take you to the top of the village (every 15 min) from where one can get the blue SITA buses to Sorrento (1 h.) or Amalfi (1 h.).
To the right of the main beach numerous ferries and hydrofoils ply daily between Positano and Capri (50min), Naples (50 min), Amalfi (30 min) and Salerno (1-1/2 h).

La Terrazza sul Mare is a great cottage for 2 couples or for a family with two well-behaved children. NOT really small children, though, as the drops are just too precipitous and too tempting for little ones. And if you’re two couples, one couple must use the bathroom downstairs, which, however, is just at the foot of the stairs. We cannot tell you how many groups of 2 couples have happily rented the La Terrazza sul Mare over the years.

Remember that Positano is full of stairs, most of them irregular and with high risers, including the 85 steps you need to negotiate to get up to the Terrazza sul Mare. We strongly discourage families with very small children and anyone with even relatively slight mobilitity issues. A porter service may be possible by prior arrangement.

There is some noise from the street, which is essentially Positano’s only street with car traffic. Remember, however, that bedrooms are all air-conditioned, meaning you can close them off, turn on the climate control, and neither suffocate nor suffer traffic noise in summer. There’s inevitably going to some noise seepage, but not significant.

You can (and probably should) come here WITHOUT a car. Have our driver pick you up at the Naples airport, or at the Naples or Sorrento train stations. Then use the money you save by not renting a car (and NOT paying nearly 2 euros per liter for gasoline and NOT paying for the vastly expensive parking garage just down the street) on having that same driver transport you stress-free to various daytrip destinations: Pompeii, Ravello, Paestum, etc. Over the years, we would guess that it’s been about 50/50 between guests who have chosen ro have a car versus those who have opted for a driver.
