Molinazzo Grande – Umbria – Orvieto

Accommodates 14 - 7 Bedrooms - 7.5 Baths - Tennis - Pool - Wi-Fi - A/C

Villa Molinazzo has been one of our greatest success stories. Its Roman owners did it up, inside and out, with superb taste, and it is as close to perfect as any country house we know. Views of the surrounding countryside are really magnificent. And the location in Southern Umbria is one of our absolute favorites in all Italy. Orvieto and Todi are the biggest “name” towns nearby; there are dozens of interesting, less heralded villages in the area.

Pool with heart-stopping view from Molinazzo luxury country vacation villa in Umbria for up to 14 people The lovely hilltown of Montecchio is closest. Other beautiful spots include Narni, Lugnano, and antique-shop-filled Amelia – all largely undiscovered by foreign tourists. One of the most charming hilltowns in all of Italy, Civita di Bagnoregio, is a short drive over the border into the region of Lazio, as is Viterbo, a provincial capital with one of Italy’s most interesting medieval quarters.

Why, you might even hear Italian spoken on occasion! If you’re in search of Chianti/Disneyland, this isn’t it; instead, this area still retains something of the authentic about it.

At the same time, this location does allow you to make easy daytrips to all the more well-known towns in southern Umbria – Todi, Spoleto, Spello, Assisi, Perugia – as well as to some of Italy’s most spectacular gardens. Not many Americans get to gardens such as Bomarzo, Villa Lante, or Villa Farnese, but they are fascinating and well worth the visit. Bomarzo, in particular, is great for children, as are the Cascate delle Marmore, among Italy’s most famous waterfalls. Rome can be easily visited by train for the day.

Surrounding the house are extremely well-maintained grounds. Several charming pathways lead up to the swimming pool which enjoys a fantastic view of the house itself, together with the grounds and surrounding countryside.

With more-or-less equal bedrooms, all with en-suite baths, Molinazzo is an ideal house for couples traveling together, for an extended family, or for two or three families with children. Molinazzo is one of our top properties.

We love this house. The owners will do anything and everything to make your stay a pleasant and memorable one.

Bedrooms are almost, but not perfectly, equal. The downstairs bedroom suite is definitely superior to the other bedrooms, but not fatally so. We have sent up to 7 couples here, and no one left resenting the fact that one couple had a slightly “better” bedroom than the others.

In the present context of elevated rental prices, Molinazzo offers you one of the best price-quality ratios you can find, especially in low and shoulder seasons.
