Ristoro – Tuscany – Chianti

Accommodates 4 - 2 Bedrooms - 2 Baths - Pool - Wi-Fi - A/C

Located in a renovated barn, Ristoro is a part of the Borgo Fiorito, an absolutely delightful and really upscale property in the heart of the enchanting Chianti countryside. It’s our personal favorite of all of the Borgo Fiorito accommodations, because of the fantastic kitchen and beautiful spaces throughout.

Just about every day of the year, we get offered at least one new property, whether a villa, a farmhouse, a castle, or an estate with multiple units. I would say that 99% of the time, we say no. The place needs to be almost perfect for us to make the effort to go see it. It’s not the goal of Vacanza Bella to accumulate hundreds of properties.

As it happened, Borgo Fiorito turned out to be directly across the road from our gorgeous Villa Il Monastero, so we said, OK, let’s go see Borgo Fiorito, too, especially since the setting, in the midst of olive groves, sunflower fields, and Chianti vineyards, is so inviting.

And very happy we are. What makes Borgo Fiorito so special? For one thing, the location, absolutely ideal, about 30 minutes from Florence, 50 from Siena, via the nearby 4-lane superhighway connecting the two cities. You’re less than 5 minutes’ drive, on an easy unpaved approach road, from Mercatale Val di Pesa, a typically delightful Tuscan wine-producing village, with all services, restaurants, and trattorie. While you’ll definitely want a car to explore the whole region, Mercatale can be reached by foot in about 15-20 minutes’ easy walking through the fields. San Gimignano and all of the famous Chianti villages – Greve, Castellina, Radda, Gaiole, Strada – are just a short drive away.

But even more than the location, we just loved how the owners have furnished the Borgo Fiorito units. It is most definitely not “cookie-cutter”. Furnishings in each of the five accommodations are just lovely, with original art and antiques, fine fabrics and fittings everywhere in evidence. Each of the accommodations is different, and lovingly thought out. Prices are higher than at our other multiple-unit estates, but Borgo Fiorito really is an elegant four-star property.

Privacy? Each of the accommodations – which are located in two different farm buildings — has its own independent entrance direct from the outside, as well as an extremely private outdoor area all its own. Of course, you will meet other guests at the swimming pool, or in the parking area. But overall, there is excellent privacy for all of the units. The owners, who are dedicated to making your stay a pleasant one, reside in a historic villa a short distance away. They are fluent in English, totally unobtrusive, but present when you need their assistance.

Just to repeat what we say in our Overview of Borgo Fiorito: Wonderful location, elegant accommodations, excellent privacy among the units. Bedrooms are pretty much equal, with many bedrooms having beds that can be made up as either matrimonials or twins, making the units good either for couples traveling together, or for families with children.

Il Ristoro is without any doubt our favorite of the Borgo Fiorito accommodations. The living spaces and especially the kitchen are just delightful. Bedrooms are pretty much equal. And privacy is the most complete of any of the units. The only negative is that one of the baths is downstairs; we feel that that’s a small sacrifice in this wonderful context.

Clearly, if what you want is absolute privacy, Borgo Fiorito is not the place to go. You’ll undoubtedly meet other guests by the pool or in the parking area, but to us this is also one of the attractions. Il Ristoro, again, is the most private of any of the Borgo Fiorito properties.
