Rosmarino is probably the nicest “just for two” property we have ever seen in Tuscany. It’s located in a former olive oil mill, part of the Borgo Fiorito, an absolutely delightful upscale property in the heart of the enchanting Chianti countryside.
Just about every day of the year, we get offered at least one new property, whether a villa, a farmhouse, a castle, or an estate with multiple units. I would say that 99% of the time, we say no. The place needs to be almost perfect for us to make the effort to go see it. It’s not the goal of Vacanza Bella to accumulate hundreds of properties.
As it happened, Borgo Fiorito turned out to be directly across the road from our gorgeous Villa Il Monastero, so we said, OK, let’s go see Borgo Fiorito, too, especially since the setting, in the midst of olive groves, sunflower fields, and Chianti vineyards, is so inviting.
And very happy we are. What makes Borgo Fiorito so special? For one thing, the location, absolutely ideal, about 30 minutes from Florence, 50 from Siena, via the nearby 4-lane superhighway connecting the two cities. You’re less than 5 minutes’ drive, on an easy unpaved approach road, from Mercatale Val di Pesa, a typically delightful Tuscan wine-producing village, with all services, restaurants, and trattorie. While you’ll definitely want a car to explore the whole region, Mercatale can be reached by foot in about 15-20 minutes’ easy walking through the fields. San Gimignano and all of the famous Chianti villages – Greve, Castellina, Radda, Gaiole, Strada – are just a short drive away.
But even more than the location, we just loved how the owners have furnished the Borgo Fiorito units. It is most definitely not “cookie-cutter”. Furnishings in each of the five accommodations are just lovely, with original art and antiques, fine fabrics and fittings everywhere in evidence. Each of the accommodations is different, and lovingly thought out. Prices are higher than at our other multiple-unit estates, but Borgo Fiorito really is an elegant four-star property.
Privacy? Each of the accommodations – which are located in two different farm buildings — has its own independent entrance direct from the outside, as well as an extremely private outdoor area all its own. Of course, you will meet other guests at the swimming pool, or in the parking area. But overall, there is excellent privacy for all of the units. The owners, who are dedicated to making your stay a pleasant one, reside in a historic villa a short distance away. They are fluent in English, totally unobtrusive, but present when you need their assistance.
