San Giacomo - Enrico – Venice

Accommodates 4 - 2 Bedrooms - 2 Baths - Garden - Tennis Court -Wi-Fi - A/C

We have offered the San Giacomo trio of wonderful Venice flats for over 15 years now, and no one has ever been disappointed. They are just fantastic. But above all, it is the neighborhood that is so appealing – far enough removed, but not too far, from San Marco and all its attendant crowds. This is a real Venetian neighborhood, on the border of the Santa Croce and San Polo quarters, just a short walk from Campo San Polo, the Rialto Bridge, and the station. It’s steps from one of Venice’s most appealing squares, the Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio. Unlike much of Venice, especially the area around San Marco, this neighborhood abounds with food shops and other services patronized by real Venetians.

San Giacomo is a large palazzo bounded on one side by a canal and on the other by a little piazza. The building is in the shape of an “L” within which lies a garden large enough to contain a gazebo and Venice’s only private tennis court.

The owners, who live in one part of the villa and who are extremely gracious and welcoming people, have restored three spacious flats to a very high standard. Each has its own central heating and air-conditioning system. Furnishings are an appealing mixture of antique and tasteful modern. All units have television (with satellite reception) and telephone. Because San Giacomo is really a luxury property, the owners limit children either to non-walking infants or to well-behaved youngsters over 12 years of age, but they are open to making exceptions as well.

    • Living/dining room
    • Kitchen with delightful view onto the square
    • Bedroom with divisible matrimonial bed
    • Shower room
    • Balconied bedroom with joinable twin beds, overlooking the living/dining room (but quite private, really)
    • Shower room
    • Hydrangea- and rose-filled garden shared with the owners (who very rarely use it), furnished with table and chairs for having drinks and/or dinner alfresco
    • Tennis court private to the property, available for use (for a fee and by reservation) by guests of all the San Giacomo flats

The San Giacomo flats are virtually perfect. We have never, ever, had a single remotely negative comment about them in nearly 20 years.

The owners have made certain that the flats are suitable for any combination of guests. For example, we have rented each of them on several occasions to 4 women traveling together who were fine sharing a bedroom with twin beds. All of the beds are either twinnable or unifiable. Thus, each flat works for two couples, four singles, one couple and two singles, and families.

The Enrico, which is really a delightful mini-townhouse, is best for one couple or for a family.  Two couples works less well because of the fact that the upstairs bedroom is open to the living room below, but on occasion two couples have taken the Enrico and made it work just fine. The garden is just delightful.
